Annotation. The article analyzes the specific features of phraseological comparatives in works of fiction and the ideas of linguists-researchers about the concept of a comparative. Also, in addition to the problems of the category of expressiveness, it is emphasized that phraseological comparatives are also characterized by emotional-expressiveness. The authors analyzed emotionally expressive phraseological comparatives of positive, negative and neutral meanings based on the works of M. Magauin. The techniques of using phraseological comparatives were not ignored, as well as the fact that the writer used and reproduced the phraseology of the national language. The article also examines the associative spheres of phraseological comparatives and the melodic sound characteristic of them based on examples.
