The article deals with the concept of archetype and archetypes in Kazakh literature. The mountain archetype is analyzed, Kazakh poetry and prose works are analyzed, and the image of the archetype is shown. The image of the mountain in folk tales, which started from the period of oral literature, was analyzed as well as the archetypal image of the mountain in the works of giants of Kazakh literature such as Mukaghali Makataev, Mukhtar Auezov, Kabdesh Zhumadilov. The most important features of the concept of archetype are time and space. When we talk about the types of archetypes in the Kazakh mentality, we mean that it is diverse and multifaceted. Among them, the "mountain archetype" that we are talking about originates from distant oral literature and is also reflected in modern Kazakh written literature. The archetype of the mountain is not only a place of hiding from the sudden phenomena and enemies of the harsh nature in the mind of the primitive man, but also has a symbolic meaning representing the beginning of life, the opening to the light world. Every nation often returns to its archetypes when given the opportunity to freely develop its own culture. For example, the recent idea of "modernization of national foundations" in various spheres of culture and art is similar to this. This is a legitimate and progressive phenomenon, especially in the newly independent Republic of Kazakhstan.
