Abstract. The article examines relevant issues for studying the legacy of Abai—specifically, the influence of works of world literature on the formation of his personality as a poet, his visit to the city library opened in 1883, his acquaintance with Russian exiles, and the reading circle that played a significant role in shaping the artist's worldview.
The author pays particular attention to the character of the poet's relationships with political exiles, the problems of mutual spiritual enrichment, and the gradual growth of Abai's interest in translation activities.
The work also traces the influence of Eastern, Russian, and Western European literature on the formation and further development of Abai's aesthetic tastes, as well as his desire to involve his students and compatriots in the treasures of world culture, which is especially evident through the analysis of the poet's own artistic works, the novel "The Path of Abai" by M.O. Auezov and memoir sources.
